Dr. Gabrielle Green-Oakes is a post-doctoral resident at The Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment in Alexandria, VA, working with Expand Psychology. She provides individual and family therapy, as well as comprehensive psychological assessment, for children, adolescents, and adults. Her therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and developmentally informed. She draws from evidence-based treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and trauma-informed care, tailoring each intervention to the client’s unique needs, life stage, and goals. Whether you are seeking therapy for the first time or have previously engaged in therapy, Dr. Green-Oakes is deeply committed to creating a safe and affirming space for understanding, healing, and growth related to the challenges each client is navigating.

Specialization

Dr. Green-Oakes specializes in supporting clients across the lifespan, with clinical expertise in relational patterns/interpersonal challenges, anxiety, emotion dysregulation, trauma, identity development, life transitions, and behavioral concerns. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents facing mood disorders, academic stress, peer difficulties, and ADHD. Dr. Green-Oakes’ growing focus includes adults navigating complex emotional needs, interpersonal concerns, and high-functioning roles. In addition to therapy, she provides comprehensive psychological assessments for clients of all ages using a strengths-based approach to offer diagnostic clarity and guide treatment planning, educational accommodations, and personal development. Dr. Green-Oakes brings a culturally attuned lens to her work, especially in her support of communities of color and individuals from historically marginalized backgrounds.

Education, Training, and Professional Experience

Dr. Green-Oakes earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the John L. Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents in Rockville, MD, an APA-accredited site, where she provided therapy (individual, family, and group) and assessment within therapeutic day and residential programs. Her prior training spans a variety of settings including community mental health centers, school/milieu, residential treatment, and private practice. Across these environments, she has consistently centered her work with both youth and adults, supporting clients through a broad range of emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges.
