Margaret Tucker Cardon, LPC, PMH-C, is a licensed professional counselor at Expand Psychology focused on providing warm, compassionate, and collaborative therapy from adolescence throughout adulthood. Margaret has specialty training and experience providing couples therapy as well. Throughout both individual and couples work, Margaret centers the therapeutic relationship, and supports clients in addressing present-day challenges while also exploring the past to better understand the origins of behavioral patterns to help you make lasting changes at their core. Her strengths-based, solution focused approach empowers clients to gain insight and move towards meaningful and lasting change.
Margaret is proud to offer in person services in the Old Town Alexandria offices and accessible care via telehealth through the state of Virginia, and Florida as well.
Specialization
At Expand Psychology, Margaret specializes in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and difficulties with life transitions across the lifespan. Margaret works to develop a person-centered, yet flexible approach which draws from a variety of evidenced based modalities in which Margaret has received training. Based on client need, Margaret is able to utilize and implement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
As part of her post-graduate training, Margaret has developed a passion and additional expertise working with women across the life span, and in particular supporting maternal mental health. As a certified perinatal mental health counselor, Margaret offers support for women who are pregnant, postpartum, or who have experienced or are experiencing perinatal loss or infertility.
Margaret is also a Gottman Level I trained couples therapist. She uses evidence-based interventions to help couples understand how different interpersonal and family systems' experiences impact on their relationships. Margaret draws from her experience working with individuals in order to approach each person with empathy, understanding, and unconditional positive regard. This enables her to work both with couples experiencing distress and also couples seeking to grow closer in an already strong relationship.

Education, Training, and Professional Journey
Margaret earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Kenyon College and her Master’s in School Counseling from the University of Virginia. Since completing her graduate studies, she has gained extensive experience in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, as well as in traditional outpatient therapy settings. This range of clinical work has prepared her to support clients through a wide variety of emotional and psychological needs.
