About
Dr. Simcox is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Virginia and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. At Expand Psychology, she works with adolescent and adult populations. With over a decade in private practice, she also serves as a supervisor for psychoeducational evaluations. Dr. Simcox takes an integrative, collaborative approach to therapy, tailoring her work to meet the unique needs of each client and supporting coordination between multiple environments including home, school and/or therapeutic environments when appropriate.
Specialization
Dr. Simcox specializes in treating anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and adjustment disorders, as well as assisting clients with life transitions, identity formation, and complex trauma using an integrative approach that draws on cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and schema therapies. She is highly experienced in psychoeducational evaluations across both school and clinical settings, with expertise in linking assessment findings to special education law and accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (Section 504). She is especially skilled at bridging clinical insights with educational and employment settings to support lasting, real-world outcomes for her clients.
Education, Training, and Professional Experience
Dr. Simcox earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, an APA and NASP accredited program. She also holds a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from New York University. Her clinical training included psychotherapy and psychological testing at the NYU Child Study Center and the University Parent Consultation and Child Evaluation Service (UPCCES) at the University of Maryland. In addition, she trained extensively in regional school systems, including Howard County, Prince George’s County, Fairfax County, and Alexandria City.
Before joining Expand Psychology, Dr. Simcox spent seven years as a school psychologist working with elementary through high school students in Charles County, Alexandria City, and Fairfax County. She also contributed to the NIMH-funded “Treatment of Adolescents with Depression” multi-site study and has published peer-reviewed research on interprofessional collaboration, personality assessment, and evaluating social skills programs. Her work has been presented at national conferences.
