Healing through play

Children learn through play. When carefully guided by a trusted therapist, playing games, using their imagination, and drawing are ways for children to explore their emotions, make sense of difficult experiences, and build the skills they need to thrive in a fun, comfortable environment.

The benefits of play therapy

Play therapy is a well-researched, evidence-based therapy that helps children feel heard, understood, and loved in a non-judgmental and supportive space.

Express feelings: Learn age-appropriate ways to communicate

Learn coping skills: Increase ability to regulate emotions in a natural setting

Improve self-esteem: Process past stressful events and increase confidence

Assessment FAQs

  • We understand that children, teens, and some adults, may struggle with focus and attention. That’s exactly why we break up most assessments over several sessions and add in plenty of time for breaks.  Many of our testing psychologists also provide psychotherapy, so they are experts in creating a comfortable and supportive environment and recognizing signs of testing fatigue or anxiety. We adjust the testing schedule as needed to minimize the stress for every individual.

  • Absolutely. We pride ourselves on having extremely comprehensive reports and incorporate multiple observations and viewpoints to ensure an accurate diagnosis and assessment.

  • It depends on your insurance. We are an out-of-network provider, which means you pay us directly but can seek reimbursement from your insurance company. We provide a superbill with the exact medical billing codes you need to make it easy for you to submit a claim to your insurance company. Many of our clients are reimbursed for a significant portion of the assessment.

Download our Patient Insurance Worksheet, which includes questions and information to help you understand your out-of-network benefits when contacting your insurance provider.

  • Absolutely. One of the benefits of being an out-of-network provider is your privacy. It is 100% up to you who sees the results of the assessment. We can discuss your concerns and provide recommendations on how the results could help with accommodations and what that means for privacy during the feedback session.

  • We strongly discourage students from studying or practicing for any aspect of the test, as the results are contingent upon the student seeing the information for the first time. This helps ensure that schools can accurately use the results to place your child in an environment where they can genuinely thrive.

The best way to prepare your child is to encourage a relaxed and inquisitive attitude toward the assessment. Make sure they bring glasses and any medication they may need. We always encourage a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast on the morning of the test.

Therapy FAQs

  • When you have your intake conversation with our team, we will discuss your child’s symptoms and history. We can explain the different treatment options and recommend the best provider and approach for your child’s age and specific situation. We have therapists that specialize with different age groups and developmental levels.

  • CBT looks like a therapist and a child talking in a safe and comfortable space. The first four sessions will focus on building a trusting relationship between your child and their therapist, assessing your child’s symptoms, and building a collaborative treatment plan. As CBT treatment progresses, your child’s therapist will help them identify patterns in thoughts and behavior that can make their life difficult. Then, they will help your child find more helpful, healthy, and adaptive ways to cope with their struggles and identify triggers for behavior issues.

  • Play therapy is a developmentally and evidence-based approach to therapy designed specifically for children typical from age 2 to 9. During weekly meetings, your child and their therapist will use toys, games, creative arts, and storytelling to express what may be difficult to express verbally. Our trained clinicians use the therapeutic power of play to help children feel engaged in treatment and navigate challenges in comfortable and non-threatening ways.

  • After an initial consultation, you will have a parent-only meeting with your child’s therapist to discuss your child’s history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. We recommend weekly 45-minute therapy sessions with regular parent check-ins so you have input on the treatment plan. The length of therapy varies, but treatment will always be guided by a plan with clear goals so you and your child always understand what’s been achieved and where you are going.

  • We understand that kids grow up and move away and that is why we are proud to offer telehealth services so that we can provide continuity of care. Transitions for teens and young adults are hard enough. They shouldn’t have to find a new therapist too.

Expand your child’s resilience. We can help.
