A note from our founder: Welcome to Expand Psychology
To our patients, referral partners, and the wider community,
As our practice celebrates its 20th anniversary, I am thrilled to share that we have officially changed the name of our practice from the Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment to Expand Psychology.
While our name is new, what matters most remains the same: our ownership, leadership, team, mission, and deep commitment to our clients and community. I founded this practice with a vision rooted in evidence-based care, service, and continuous learning. Those roots remain strong even as we’ve grown over the past two decades.
Our Story of Evolution
When I first founded the practice, our focus was on providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychological assessment for children and adolescents in Northern Virginia. These services remain central, but as community needs evolved, so did we.
Today, our team offers specialized services across the lifespan — from early childhood through adulthood. We support families with parenting interventions, couples therapy, and guidance for those navigating divorce and separation. Our assessment services now include autism evaluations and tailored psychoeducational assessments. Across all these services, our shared goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care for those who’ve had limited options for support.
To me, “Expand” captures everything this change represents. Expand means to grow, to evolve, to broaden. Our name now mirrors our reality: a practice that serves a range of populations, utilizes diverse treatment modalities, and thrives through collaboration with other providers throughout the community. We chose this name because it reflects our ongoing commitment to adapt and respond to the needs of those we serve — honoring our past while embracing who we’ve become.
Our New Logo: The Hoberman Sphere
Alongside our new name, you’ll see our new logo, inspired by the Hoberman sphere. I love this symbol because it so beautifully represents interconnectedness — many moving parts expanding and contracting in unison. Each clinician brings unique strengths and expertise, but together we form a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
And just as the Hoberman sphere illustrates finding connectedness amidst complexity, we hope our work fosters a sense of connection, growth, and balance even in times of hardship, difficulty, or struggle. We promise to be with you through challenges and to celebrate your successes.
What Stays the Same
Even as our name, logo, and website change, our clinicians, services, and pricing remain unchanged. We are a small, privately owned practice, rooted deeply in the value that a dynamic team of clinicians working collectively to provide mutual support to each other extends to excellence and dedication in client care. Current clients will continue working with their providers as always. Emails and communication channels are now seamlessly forwarding to our new system.
Our mission remains: to provide the highest-quality, evidence-based care in a compassionate, collaborative, and personalized way. We aim not only to manage symptoms, but to improve quality of life, deepen connections, and support lasting growth. We will continue to offer high quality in person care in Old Town Alexandria and Falls Church, VA for those who benefit most from being seen in the office, while providing accessible care through telehealth too.
I am deeply grateful to our clients, colleagues, and community partners for trusting and supporting us over the past 20 years. This new chapter is possible because of you. As Expand Psychology, we look forward to expanding our knowledge, deepening our understandingings, and broadening the ways we can serve you.
With gratitude,
Dr. Katie O’Meara
