About

Nneka Okoli, M.A., M.Psy, is a doctoral candidate at the George Washington University and doctoral psychology extern at Expand Psychology in Alexandria, VA. Through her training experience she is excited to begin working with children, adolescents, and families. Ms. Okoli is passionate about providing culturally competent care by creating a supportive and nurturing environment where clients feel empowered to co-create the therapeutic space. She is committed to curiosity, empathy, and assisting clients to cultivate their own voice. Ms. Okoli ultimately believes that each client intuitively knows what their soul needs and it’s her job to witness and assist the client on their own journey towards healing.

Specialization

Ms. Okoli specializes in spiritual psychology, maternal mental health, and immigration trauma. She has experience working with immigrant children, leveraging social and emotional learning techniques to support their transition to America and navigate the grief that comes with leaving their home country behind. Additionally, she has worked with adults with complex trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence (including Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD), and a history of childhood sexual abuse. She places a strong emphasis on navigating intergenerational wounds with care, honoring the many emotions that arise with recognizing patterns in one's family system and committing to a new way forward.

Education, Training, and Professional Experience

Ms. Okoli has a masters in Clinical Psychology from the Spirituality, Mind, Body Institute at Teachers College, Columbia University. She completed her master’s level practicum in integrating spirituality in education at P.S. 116 and The School at Columbia University in New York City. Additionally, she earned her certificate in Sexuality, Women, and Gender Advanced Certificate at Teacher’s College specializing in perinatal mental health. Lastly, Ms. Okoli completed an internship at the United Nations Populations Fund specializing in global reproductive rights to advocate for reproductive rights of women with disabilities.

As an Expand Psychology extern Ms. Okoli is looking forward to gaining more experience with children, adolescents, and mothers in a group practice setting.
